That sounds like the original message text window which I turned
off soon after installing TB!. View | Original Text.

Is that the free caret interface that you're referring to? The
caret/cursor in the TB! editor may be placed *anywhere* in the text body
window. Because of this the cursor doesn't behave as in standard
editors. The editor will go exactly where you place it.

Check your editor settings and make sure that 'overwrite blocks'
is enabled and 'persistent blocks' is disabled. Does that improve on
things?
