Not every one can afford a big screen as you do, (or has as good
eyesight). And clutters on the taskbar (or "start bar" if you like)
isn't the only issue. With MDI you may use Ctrl-Tab or any other
method the application implement to switch between documents,
preserving Alt-Tab for application switching. With SDI, it might
take forever to switch to another application with Alt-Tab, forcing
you to use mouse. (Not that I hate mouse, mind you.)

IMHO, there're things better accomplished with MDI, others by SDI.
Of course, we may never agree on what's better accomplished by
which.
