There is a formula for the optimal partition size, based on the
addressing system in the VTOC (volume table of contents - I believe
it's just a fancy word for FAT/File Allocaton Table, but any IT
professionals are encouraged to correct me) and the addressing mode
and stuff. You probably don't need this:

If I understand you right, you want to use these partitions for the OS
files only. That means you make another partition for the data. How
much space do these files need? Add something for good measure, like
100% <g>.

Most of the space will be taken by applications and, foremost, data.
Wait a sec: the apps will run only under each OS, so you might want
to put them in the same partition as the respective OS, so that gives
you a clue.
