Hi George (another H.P. Lovecraft follower I see!)
At present, as you say, GnuPG is the shell to the OpenPGP standard, but
currently it is a shell to Dos and most of its commands can only be accessed
through the commandline. As far as I am aware, the only Windows interface
for GnuPGP is the Becky 2 plug-in that is currently in Beta testing (and to
say its interface is a bit sparse is an understatement, with documentation
only in Japanese as yet). You still have to go through Dos to access most
commands, though the Sign, Encrypt, Sign & Encrypt, Decrypt and Verify
commands are fully supported.
If The Bat is fully OpenPGP compliant, then not only will it require a
Privacy menu item similar to the above, but also a way of accessing the
commands currently only available through the command line in Dos. If The
Bat isn't to become "top heavy" in this respect than something like the
earlier "PGP front ends" or the PGPtray facility is going to have to be
produced.
At present, this is the big limitation of the use of GnuPG/OpenPGP in
Windows. It will be very interesting to see how TB overcomes it......
As this is not strictly about TB, perhaps we could continue this thread
off-list or through TBOT?
