Purging would delete old mail according to the settings in the
folder properties. "Deletion" doesn't physically remove a message
from the message base; it just marks the record as deleted.
Compressing would physically remove all deleted messages and compact
the message base file.
The "Purge All folders" command under the Folder menu also
automatically compress all folders after purge. For single folder,
it says "Purge+Compress", which is clearer.
BTW, Britta, I found all your messages coming in broken with the
original threads. I know this is because you're a digest subscriber.
Since you're actively participating in discussions, may I suggest
you to switch to regular subscription so your follow-ups would come
along in the right place?
