TB does this automatically unless you set it otherwise through a
template.

Actually all email programs allow you to reply to the original
sender (like the Ctrl-F4 in TB), so just say "please reply to me
privately" should be enough. Even if you want to make it easier for
those who don't know how to do that, you may add a mailto link at
the end of your message (something like the default reply template
TB gives us).

But in most cases, people expect others to follow up on the list,
without resetting the Reply-to field, all replies would become
private. So, the current practice is more prudent and practical,
IMO.

Are you sure? Here TB always set the Reply-To fields even though
it's the same as the From field in my account properties settings (I
don't have it set in my tempaltes, either.). Just tried, even if I
delete the Reply-To settings (leave it blank) in the account
properties, TB still set it (which is the same as the From field) in
my outgoing messages.
