where I live) witnesses say Michal Kozusznik typed:

Well, there is a slight difference between an unread parent message
and a read parent message with unread messages deeper in the thread.
The little envelope icon in the Message Flags column is yellow for an
unread parent and white for anything else. (Of course if you have
changed your glyph file, then the colours may be different. But the
behaviour is the same.)
