I don't think you can do that directly, but what about creating a
folder for today's mail?  Under the properties for this folder, select
"Keep messages for 0 days" (This actually means keep it for one day).
"Remove old messages on exit" and "Compress folder on exit" should
also be selected.

Now create a filter to *copy* your incoming messages to this folder.
So long as you restart TB at least once a day, or if you run a purge
operation once a day, then you'll get the desired effect.

With the appropriate choice of filter conditions, you can customize
this to your needs.  For example, you can mark the copy staying in
your inbox as read, and mark the copy in the today folder as unread.

Your other option is to use the Mail Ticker, but I can't provide too
many details there.
