After  investigation,  It  looks like we are now slightly ahead of you
here.  Thanks  for  the  tips  about the login to the server. This now
works,  and  so does the search. Having searched once, the results get
stored locally, and can therefore be used quite happily.

The  fact  that  The  Bat!  fails  to log any activity related to ldap
servers  makes  it look as though there was no attempt to do anything,
when, in fact, there was a login failure.

The  ldap server behaves oddly, in that it now finds anything you type
in  anywhere  in  the  relevant  field  in  the  address  book,  so it
implicitly  does  a wildcard search. However, if you try putting % * ?
[a-z] or anything else you would expect to act as a wildcard, it finds
nothing!
