Bat! of course is probably not designed to use localhost (127.0.0.1)
as an isp. However some of us do (I personally use Hamster to collect
mail from two isp accounts & 2 news group accounts, and then upload
from Bat & Gravity news reader) and I have noticed the following:-

If Hamster is not running, there is no warning that a connection could
not be made by Bat! when attempting to upload or download mail.

If Hamster is running, and not connected to the 'net, Bat!, when
uploading the first time, connects to Hamster, will not upload, and
also brings up the default dial out connection. When the connection
is cancelled, Bat! then uploads to Hamster.

Not earth shattering stuff, but one day maybe the developers could
have a look at this.
