Hi azrael,
On 18 April 2001 at 19:48:18 -0400 (which was 00:48 where I live)
azrael wrote to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and made these points:
a> Did I do that correctly this time?
Mostly, yes, but I've had to go through and tidy up the bad job made
of my quotes. I don't know how that happened.
Generally, if I want to reply to a message, I hit "Reply" and end up
with neatly quoted text. I start at the top of that text, deleting
lines that are not relevant as I go until I reach a bit I want to say
something about. I open up a couple of blank lines so that I have a
clear space to type in and, with my cursor hard left, I type. I use
auto-wrap and auto-format to keep my text tidy. I take care not to
type into the next paragraph of quotes with auto-format on, because
that *really* messes things up. When I've finished, I keep deleting
until I hit the next this I have something to say about. I carry on
until my reply is complete and it looks as you see this message here.
a> I haven't been able to understand a thing about the templates. The
a> coding symbols %******% are meaningless to me at this point.
They follow a fairly simple syntax and mean things like "Original From
First Name" %OFFNAME or "To Address" %TOADDR. From these clues you may
well be able to extrapolate the meanings of many others. When writing
a template, there is a "Macros" (that's what these symbols are called
in TB - macros) button which has many of the macros available listed
with an English language definition in brackets alongside it. The help
file also contains a fairly good listing of these macros. Sadly
neither of these two sources are completely up to date.
Tmtdc>> I use Auto-wrap witlh a line length of 70. That's the main
Tmtdc>> setting. I also use Ctrl+Shift+F to toggle on/off auto-format
Tmtdc>> in real time because sometimes it's a "good thing" and
Tmtdc>> sometimes it's just "in the way".
a> Under Utilities I've set Auto-Format, Auto-Wrap and Justify in
a> autowrap. I don't see a place to set line length.
In the same window you should see a "Wrap text at" prompt. That's the
fella.
a> Marck, if I merely hit reply does auto-threading mean the
a> software figures out much of the layout?
It's not about the format of *your* reply. It's about where your reply
gets placed in a folder. TB will thread messages according to hidden
(but industry standard) headers that show which messages your message
is in reply to and refers to. All related messages in a folder are
help in a "cascaded" layout so that it is easy to who replied to whom
in what subject.
a> I get TBUDL in digest form so I need to know how to say reply
a> to you and your remarks as distinguished from the rest of the
a> digest.
Ah! I didn't realize that. That's why you have to make a new reply and
can't reply to the original messages. Well - that strikes out
everything in the preceding paragraph :-(. The only way that applies
is if you revert from the digest to receiving normal posts.
a> I've noticed several ISP's use screen shots to walk users through
a> setting up Outlook Express. ... The Faq has some examples like that
a> I believe but I would love to see more.
Interesting. We will have to come up with some areas in which that
will be useful.
