Hello Bat! folk!
I just thought I'd share a humorous story with you all in the hopes
that some people will not make the mistake I did.
I, and probably everyone else on this planet, despises spam. I know it
is not possible to get rid of it completely but there are some steps
that you can take to get rid of at least SOME of it.
What did I do? I made a handy-dandy filter whose rules were:
- - Monitor the Inbox for message that do NOT have my e-mail address
anywhere in the message and send it immediately to the trash can,
setting the READ flag in the process.
Sounds good so far? I thought so too! Here's the funny part. I put my
new SPAM filter at the top of ALL my other filters so that it was the
first filter to run. Don't get the joke yet? Well, I am addicted to
this e-mail list as well as several others. An hour or more
goes by and I don't have a single new message for ANY of the lists
that I subscribe to, yet, I keep hearing the "ding" from the Bat!
saying I got new mail. Hey, my new filter must be really hauling away
the "trash"!
Yep, ALL of my lists e-mail was being sent directly to the trash bin
because the messages do not contain my e-mail address!!!!! Doh!
So, I slid my new "SPAM" filter below the list filters that move the
mail to their associated folders. All is well!
So, the moral of this story is that to create filters is good, but to
put the filter in the appropriate order is even better!
