I use MyRealBox.com, but you could probably use most(?) others...
I check the "Perform SMTP Authentication (RFC 2553)" in Account
Properties \ Transport \ SMTP Server "Authentication" and am able to
have my from and reply to address be an account in whatever DNS domain
I want.
I believe smpt servers don't allow relaying (which is what you are
referring to) as a minor spam prevention scheme. I know when I ran a
large mail system, I had to front end it with sendmail because the
smtp gateway for the mail system handled relaying by fully receiving
the msg, then rejecting it. To auto testers that indicated that it
would relay... <g>
