I immediately selected the new mark-as-read option in 1.53, which
allows you to mark a message read only when you open it in a separate
window. (Under Options in the Account Properties dialog box.)
But I formerly had put an entry in the "Mark message as read when it
is being read for" box, and my entry was a long duration -- 9999 seconds.
That was because I didn't want messages marked as read unless I marked
them as read.
So when I switched to the new feature, I noticed that just opening a
message in a separate window had no effect. And then I re-checked the
old setting ("Mark message as read when it is being read for") and
changed the time to 1 second. THEN I selected the new option (separate
window), and now when I open a message in a separate window, 1 second
later the message is marked as read.
Maybe I'm the only one who didn't catch on right away. But in case
anyone else hit up against this one, the time you set for the first
option affects how long before a message is marked as read if you use
the second option.
Take care,
Orson
