I actually store 15267 messages. Last week, I put all of them in a
folder in order to refilter. TB did what you describe. So I restore
from copy.
I think TB has no limit in message number, but in message per folder.
Its not exactly a TB limit. IMO is a system limit.
Your friend could try to create filters to sort messages into
folders, and then import.

person in a given folder. Hold down the Alt key, then click the
person's name in the From column.
