Hello David,

Historians believe that Tuesday, August 28, 2001 at 11:11 GMT -0400
was when, David R. Austen [DRA] typed the following:

DRA> But I am puzzled. Messages which I had moved last month to other
DRA> folders (same account) are now again visible in the main Inbox.
DRA> (Received in May, June, July.) How can they come back that way?

Well, that's what I was saying, but maybe this will make it more
clear. Each folder in TB is its own message base. If you look at
your mail directory using Windows Explorer, you'll see what I mean.
Now what is a move operation? You copy the message to the new folder
then delete it from the old folder. Remember what I said about
delete not really removing messages? That's what happened here.
Somehow the deleted flag for those old messages was removed/corrupted.
The result is that you see them again.

If you compress regularly, then it won't happen in the future. You
can set TB to automatically compress selected folders on Exit.
Just go into the folder properties for the folders you want
compressed.

DRA> Also, I have read the HELP directions, but it is not clear to me
DRA> if there any risk in using these procedures: Purge and Compress.

I have never had a problem with either, but I suppose there is some
risk with Purge. Purge deletes messages based on the Folder settings.
For example "Keep messages for XX days". So any mail (read or unread)
in that folder that is older than XX days will be removed. If you're
not careful, that could mean some messages you want to save will be
removed.

Of course, you can use the Parked flag to prevent a specific message
from being deleted accidentally. Purge will ignore parked messages.
