Thanks to both you, Raj and Peter!
I found another workaround last night:
I backed up all of my accounts and deleted the ones with a .000 behind their
directories afterwards. Then I went into the MAIL folder and deleted all
corresponding dirs. I restored the now missing accounts from a backup I had
made before re-installing Win2k and found the folders created with their
"normal" names. Then I did a restore of the "new" backup I had made in the
beginning but chose to only restore the messages of the just restored
accounts. Worked like a charm!
Of course, I'm smarter now and will use the registry if I encounter this
problem again :) Thanks to Allie for the tip!
