(hold ALT and drag the folder) - go to Trash->Properties and set a maximum number of messages to be kept or a maximum number of days to keep messages in trash - this will automatically limit the number of messages - Create a read-filter, source-folder "trash", target folder "trash", string ".*", regular expressions checked, option "delete message", manual only with a key combinatioin to trigger the filter. This key combination will act as if you hit an "empty trash" button.
