This is the baddy. NEVER agree to run anything of that sort unless you
are sure what it entails and also that there is no other way of
proceeding in order to achieve what it is you wish to do.

Merely having the executable on disk is harmless. It's having it
execute and do it's thing.

Good.
Your experience demonstrates one way of remaining virus free. Stick
only to reputable and legitimate sites when browsing the internet,
otherwise be extremely careful and disable the fancy stuff especially
Java scripting, Active X and JAVA.
