This is an educated guess of an answer....
Netscape is built around an open source, widely collaborated-upon
program called Mozilla, to which Nescape allocates substantial staff
hours. I haven't used Netscape 6.x, but I have used the Mozilla
browser and mail/newsreader programs on which Netscape 6.1 and 6.2 are
based. In Mozilla, what you are trying to do cannot be done. The
only way to use the Mozilla--and presumably the Netscape--browser but
to have a mailto: link invoke The Bat! is to completely uninstall the
browser and related program modules, then reinstall on a custom
install. Do not install the Netscape mail/newsreader module. After
installation, be sure that TB! is the default mail program (in Win98,
Start/Settings/Control Panel/Internet Options/Programs), and then be
sure that TB!'s support for Simple MAPI is installed (somewhere in the
TB! configuration options). At that point, clicking on a mailto: link
in Netscape should give you TB! (Note that you can set which TB!
account to respond to a mailto: call, or you can leave it unselected
and select on the fly.)
