But probably you've unchecked 'autowrap' in the editor preferences:
 Options -> Editor preferences -> general tab

No, it only means that your window isn't as wide as those original
messages. Not that authors didn't do any wrapping. It's just possible
that you carry a low resolution on your monitor.

Higher resolution on your screen, more pixels give more line length.
