I got the same thing. I run 1600x1200, and currently
Version 1.54 RC/1.

This did not work for mine either, but I did resize the
window by dragging a corner. First to make it small
enough to cover the area, then I sized it as I normally
would.
I've had no problems since, and the folder pane spans
from top to bottom.
