Hi Peter, > Could you please give me some hints on working with the Mailtraq?
I'm not an "expert" yet, but I'll try. > I subscribed to five newsgroups to test the software but the results > were not very promising. I'd suggest you try just with one until you understand everything and get it working. I didn't get it working on first trial either, I even restarted from scratch (un-installing and reinstalling) a couple of times. > I tried to download 50 latest postings on each of these groups but > managed to get over 500 from one group, about one hundred from > another and not one from the three others. Oh dear... That I have clear now, I think. When in the Properties for a Newsgroup you select for example to "Only Download 50", that is the maximum it will download "per session". But if you have selected "Ignore articles older than XX days", and there are 1000 "younger" than XX days, it will download 1000 articles, 50 per session. > Also I couldn't figure out how to make the news to mail gateway > work... :-( Than may depend on how you want to get the articles (as e-mail) into TB. Obviously, in the Properties for each Newsgroup you have to select the Mail Gateway tab and tick (select) the Enable Mail to News Gateway option. Then you have to Add the e-mail address where you want your news articles sent as e-mail. Click on Add and include this e-mail address in the "E-Mail Address to post to" and on the "To: Field for messages" (which will be the address you have to send your replies from TB!) I suggest that you use the default suggested by MailTraq. Also, before closing the Properties dialog for a newsgroups, if you want to be able to post and reply to this newsgroup from TB!, select the News Gateway tab and tick Enable News to Mail Gateway. > Any step-by-step help would be very much appreciated! I assume you have gone through the step-by-step Getting Started Wizard that automatically executes after installation. Anyway, to make sure you have set the "proper" configuration, you can run it again at any time from Help/Getting Started Wizard. Then, the only other thing I can' think of is the "Outbox Properties" (Options/Outgoing Mail). Here you have to include the Remote Mail Server where you have the e-mail account that you selected in the News to E-mail Gateway. In my case, I have included here the IP address of my own mail server in my office. But it can be any remote server (e.g your ISP's server if that's the account you have selected). Let me know how it goes. -- Best regards, Miguel A.
