There may be good reasons for it. One of them being that nobody *can*
answer your question.

Here is a radical cure:

1. Backup your message base, your message index (*.tbb and *.tbi),
your registry key (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT).

2. Uninstall 1.53.

3. Install 1.60.

4. Copy over your backed up files and put the RegEdit key back into
your registry.

5. If necessary re-register with TB! (hopefully you still have your
registration and password).
