For me, it is happening with mail that I have a filter on which marks as read and moves to trash (I have a lot - I am very selective about what I read at home from my work address, the rest can wait until I'm there!). And for others that have made suggestions in this thread... I don't have sound on in the account properties, and I don't have sound on in the filter...
