Jonathan,
Well disabling the Autocomplete didn't make me happy, so I
jumped right to "complete addresses from" and changed it to
All Address Books. It works just fine now.
However, it still closes The Bat when I press the little
black triangle for the History. But since that function
isn't used it really isn't that big of a deal.
