This is to do with the Windows print spool mechanism and may be due to
one of many things, including "DLL hell", incorrectly installed
printer, virus infection, bad printer driver, disk error, windows
configuration error, DLL corruption, faulty RAM... the list goes on.

Remedy? May be as brutal as reinstalling the OS :-(.
