Yes, it is completly safe, (Version 5) And will not lose any data at all. You are correct that WinXP does not lose data, it does this by modifing the first section of the drive only, and files are not converted until use, though thry appear to have been converted, this saves on time. (Like a quick format when installing) So basicly it does on the fly conversion sector by sector until the drive is converted completly.
