Yes, it bypasses the ISP's SMTP server in order to send the message
directly to the recipient's POP server. If that server is down or
slow, it will cost you a lot more online time. The best thing is to
drop all your outgoing messages with an ISP's SMTP server and let that
one try until successful. Even if it takes the whole night... ;-)
