[I know what a VDF file is btw.] There might come a time the format and/or version number of VDF file is changed in a way the command line executable don't like. They don't only update virus definitions but sometimes the 'scan engine' too. And than, from time to time, it's necessary to update the 'scan engine' (the executable) for it to work with the new VDF file.
