Ok. Here's what I'm trying to do. This has always worked before with
The Bat! and any ISP I've used.

I use fastmail.fm as my POP3 server and address so that I don't have to
change it if I change providers. I have The Bat! set to retrieve mail
from fastmail.fm.

However, it has always worked better for me to put my local provider's
name in as the SMTP server. So, for my old connection, the SMTP server
read: smtp.sweetwaterhsa.net and the POP3 server was fastmail.fm.

Now, I live in a new city and my ISP is charter.net. I tried setting
the SMTP to charter.net and leaving the POP3 server as fastmail.fm.
The Bat! kept trying to contact sweetwaterhsa.net to get my email.
And, because the broadband connection was in use through charter.net,
it tried to dial. I have no phone line connected, so I was getting
nowhere.

The charter.net connection is one of those "always on" things, so I
don't even know where to find it in Windows XP to make sure it's set as
my default connection.

I can't get The Bat! to find it so that it will go get my mail from
fastmail.fm and send whatever there is to be sent via charter.net.

Does this make any sense? What do I do?
