Hi Jeanny,
   I am not an AOL expert but it might have to do with your dial up
   account being linked to a telephone number.

   Have a look at this tread: Re: global option for smtp server
   It describes how to install a SMTP server program. That should make
   it possible to send mail from whatever connection you are on.
