This is pretty straight forward. This method of forwarding a message
is, as Sudip suggested, a MIME digest, albeit a simple one. The
trick is to "explode" the digest.

Open the contained message and press Ctrl-V to move the message out
of the "digest" into a folder in its own right. You might like to
use Ctrl-U to mark it as unread first to make it easier to locate
after the move.

Now close the "master" message and locate the extracted message.
Reply to it and it will be flagged as replied.
