Hello friends at TBUDL,
Those who have been following my various troubles may be interested to
know that I finally have my copy of The Bat! registered. It has taken
many days to complete the process, which I began last week.

As nearly as I can analyze it, the original evaluation copy which I
downloaded had faulty code. I knew so little about what The Bat!
should look like that I didn't even realize that no preview pane
available was a clue that I had missing files. Then there was the
strange error code that I thought was cured by changing settings and
the frequent crashes that I thought might be lack of system
resources--until I put the resource meter on the tray and it said 67%
resources free.

All began to come clear when the registration window did not
automatically input my key. (I was patiently copying and pasting with
the keyboard keys, not knowing any better.) It would not accept my
password, which was such a simple one, 4 letters and a number,
lowercase. I knew I was typing it correctly.

So, my support contact advised me to download another copy of The Bat!
and install it over my previous one. I did and the program became even
more quirky, eventually developing a consistent habit of freezing
immediately after launch, refusing to be closed, and crashing Windows.

I finally managed to make my support contact understand that this was
way beyond a password input problem.

So he said to uninstall The Bat! and then install the newly downloaded
file. He cautioned me to choose to conserve all folders, messages,
addresses, templates, and settings when offered the choice in the
Uninstall process. I did check Yes at that box, save all.

Uninstall must have had files missing also. I lost everything. All the
templates I had laboriously learned to do. All the settings. And most
sadly, all the addresses and wonderful saved messages from tbudl with
tips on how to use The Bat!

I did not have the files backed up elsewhere because, I now know due
to lack of files or faulty code, the things I tried for storing files
outside the e-mail program did not work.

So, I'm dependent for the addresses of friends I have made here on
picking them up from your future Posts.

I feel as if I have been through a major hazing and initiation into a
very desirable club! I hope The Bat! will keep on working for me and
that I don't have to fight any more bugs.

Very, very best regards to you all. I will get these templates changed
and that annoying "mail to" signature removed from my posts here very
soon.

Mary,
weary but happy

P.S. Note to Douglas Hinds: I did not install an earlier beta version
of TB per your suggestion, because before I could do that, I finally
had an answer to my e-mail sent to Yevgeniy Kruglov, my support contact.
At that point I decided to stay with his guidance and keep v. 1.61.
Thanks for all your careful advice. MB
