If the server is set for (for instance) POP before SMTP then you may
have been running SMTP sends after a POP query purely
coincidentally.

Or the administrator of the server may have changed the
configuration overnight. If it is an Exchange server then OE may be
picking up the change automatically and TB would be left high and
dry.
