Synchronisation works by comparing the messages held in the messages of both machines and copying from the source machine any messages that are not on the destination. From my experience of it, it does not usually create folders, and it does not copy filters - it just copies messages. If I want to update my version of TB on my laptop, this is the process that I use: 1. Run stage 1 of the synchronisation on the laptop, remembering to select all the required folders and address books. This creates x.TB1, which is a list of messages on the laptop. 2. Run stage 2 of the synchronisation on the PC, using x.TB1 from the laptop. This creates x.TB2, which is a copy of all the messages on the PC which is not on the laptop. 3. Run stage 3 on the laptop, using the x.TB2 created on the PC. This updates the laptop. If you want to copy mail from your laptop back onto then PC, then you do the same, but start with stage 1 on the PC, stage 2 on the laptop, and stage 3 on the PC. Synchronisation works one way - messages are copied from source to target, not the other way! > There is a chance that there are messages on each machine that > aren't on the other. So if you have deleted a load of mail from your main PC, then these will *not* be deleted from your laptop. Similarly, if you have moved messages on the PC, then the process will create the messages in the same folders on your laptop, but will not delete them from the original folder on the laptop. You will end up with lots of duplicates. Every so often I delete the mail folders from my laptop and recreate them from a backup of my PC installation. This ensures that I have all the same filters and messages. You need to be careful doing this, however, as it can cause problems!
