That's because TB remembers the message you read last time when you
were in that folder. And TB selects the first message that comes after
that one in that thread or else in the next thread.

I'm sorting my folders newest message at the top and I developed the
habit to go to the top of the message list in the foldser, before
going to the next folder. That gives me not necessarily the newest
message in the folder, but at least it won't drop me halfway a thread.
I don't know whether there's a switch to get that behavior, but I
wouldn't hold my breath until I found it. ;-)
