What it's supposed to do is to prevent a the end-of-line in a line
of macro(s) in a quick template (or any kind of line) from putting a
line feed into the resulting text.

e.g.

This%-
%-
is%-
%-
a%-
%-
line%-
%-
comes out as:

Thisisaline

Does that make it any clearer for you?
