It depends on whether you fire on Recipient or on Reply-To. > In order for the filter to fire twice, don't you have to have > "Continue processing with other filters" selected? Am I being dense > and missing something? You are missing that you will actually get two messages, one because you are subscribed to TBUDL (and that will have TBUDL is the Reply-To, as it will have been sent via the TBUDL listserver), and another one because you are subscribed to TBTECH, and that will have been sent to you from the TBTECH listserver and carry the TBTECH Reply-To. Even though only one message left Leif's email cleint (be it TB or any other), it was destined for two distinct recipients, the listserver for TBUDL and the listserver for TBTECH. The first SMTP server on the route will send one copy each to the different destinations. This it why Marck recommends to filter on Reply-To rather than Recipient: Both messages will carry both recipients say TBUDL as TP and TBTECH as CC, but each message carriers only one Reply-To, and that is the one from the respective listserver. I have been filtering on Reply-To ever since the TB lists moved from Indonesia to Germany, and I have never had a problem. ;-) (Mary's "TBUDL and TBOT" case is a better example than "TBUDL and TBTECH", as TDUDL and TBOT are in completely different domains located on different continents, but I believe you get my point. When the receiving domain is the same for both recipients, as is the case with TBUDL and TBTECH, the first SMTP server won't send the message twice to the same receiving SMTP server, it will only be copied to different destinations when and where necessary. Point in case is, as a recipient of list mails from both listservers, you will still get two messages, not one.) So, that's why you actually get two messages, and "continue processing with other filters" has nothing to do with it, because that is an instruction how to handle one particular message. You see, a first filter that catches a message could just apply a colour code. Now TB wants to know whether it should continue processing *this message* with other filters. If the first filter contains a move to another folder, TB cannot process with other filters anyway, because the message won't be in the Inbox any more, so Incoming filters don't catch. Any setting of "continue with other filters" has no effect if the filter moves the message. > Hmmm... now that I look at my TB* filters, I see that I *do* have > "Continue processing with other filters" checked... Unchecking it > should fix the "problem", shouldn't it? No, because you said above that you filter your messages into different list folders. If you colour coded them according to which list they belong and then filter them all into one "TB-related" folder, this "continue..." switch would be necessary. However, the colour-code filter can apply the correct colour also only if you filter on Reply-To in the case of messages being sent to two lists. -- Cheers, Thomas. Moderator der deutschen The Bat!
