This is preserved in v2. Double click one of the messages and you open a
virtual folder with a list of all the attached messages that you can
browse and handle just as though they were separate and in a folder.

They are numbered sequentially, yes.

Actually, clicking on each tab will display the message. Displaying the
message will show another header bar under the main one. This additional
header bar will show the headers for the attached message being
currently viewed.

Do you have the header bar enabled? If not, enabling it would be
helpful. When you double click on one of the attached messages, do you
have the message list enabled for the new window that pops up. Enabling
the message list (View//message list) will show a list of all the
attached messages for you to browse.

Other than that, there are no 'secret' features.
