Why do you describe things as if it all happens immediately?
Conceivably, someone could receive an infected message today when no
definitions are available and then forward it two weeks later after a
definition is issued. Since the virus is contained in a message it won't
be picked up by routine scanning. But it may be picked up by the
plug-in.

Surely, the scan is not about certifying a message clean but rather
saving the sender embarrassment of sending a virus?

Alas, my Sophos plug-in no longer seems to function with TB! 2.01.x and
the latest Sophos build...
