Ok. Thought of that already. What about setting it to manual? would it
then be started if needed (and/or crashed before)?

No.. this is the notice I get when I'm retrieving mail ATM. It was
very bad with 2.01.26 (afair), as it could hang for over 5 minutes
after retrieving 2 mails or such.

At least with me it can also crash in 2.02.
