I assume your normal configuration in Options/Network & Administration is set to "Local Area Network or manual connection". If so, to "take a break" as you say, switch to "Dial-up networking connection" and make sure that "No automatic dial for periodical checking" is also selected. Once you are done, return to your normal "Local Area Network or manual connection". It is not a single toggle button, but much easier than going to your 30 email accounts. 30 email accounts!?!?!
