In the past I have used:
* IMail (http://www.ipswitch.com/products/imail_server/)
  The configuration interface is a bit quirky.

* ArgoSoft Mail Server (http://argosoft.com/applications/mailserver/)
  Last I checked, the free version doesn't run as a system service.

Be sure your ISP allows you to send mail. Check if port 25 is open AND
READ YOUR SERVICE AGREEMENT!
