That's rather non standard behaviour. The only things that come to mind as probable causes are a virus scanner that checks incoming mail (and thus acts as a proxy server), mail collection via a proxy server (these two options are basically the same) and some weird interaction with a firewall. Since you didn't mention any of those, I can't start to guess the reason. As Yes, that's the way I do it. ;-) Options -> Preferences -> Editor prefrences -> uncheck 'Autoformat' Or when you've installed the German intreface: Optionen -> Benutzereinstellungen -> Editor-Voreinstellungen -> uncheck 'Autoformat' It's possible to toggle between Autoformat on and off, but as I don't use that, I always forget that shortcut.
