Hi Paul. I'm not sure what is being referred to by "free caret" editing. Is it the ability to position the cursor past the end of a line without padding the line out to that point with the spacebar? If so, the one I use and recommend is ConTEXT: <http://www.fixedsys.com/context/>. It also allows you to configure the type of cursor you like to use, eg: an underline for insert mode, and a block for overwrite mode. ConTEXT is free, and emulates the basic Wordstar keystrokes. It is billed as a programmer's editor, and does indeed have many features useful to a programmer. But many of these features, and many of its other features, are very useful to non-programmers as well. Such as multiple tabbed windows/files, colour syntax highlighting, text scrolling (the ability, while keeping the cursor position intact, to make the text scroll up/down by keyboard command, rather than having to reach for the mouse), line-numbering, etc. It is well worth a look. -- Just Another Joe ________________________________________________ Current version is 2.11.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
