It would be helpful if you could post with TB - using Yahoo's
webmail is breaking threads all over the place, losing context
quotes and giving poor formatting. I quite understand if you are
away and unable to do otherwise right now, but it's getting quite
hard to follow the thread...

GM> Thanks for the advice Dennis.

? for instance, the advice can't be seen here nor easily found by
exploring the thread. However...

How are you doing this? We have found that unless the "Start in"
folder for the shortcut you use is the TB folder, smilies won't
work.

GM> 2. Create a new message.

No. This is not needed.

GM> 3. Change the message format to HTML only.

This is certainly nothing to do with smilies.

GM> 4. In the message area, I just type a few smiley (as per
GM> PDSF.msl)
GM> 5. Save the message and see it in the viewer.

You don't need any of this. All you need is a to view any old plain
text message in the RTV which contains the standard text grins and
leers ... you know, ": - )" (without spaces). I don't even know if
the smilies work in the HTML viewer... I suppose they do, but it's
not relevant.

As long as the "Start in" folder is correct, you are using the Rich
Text Viewer (not plain text or HTML) and the "Smileys" option is
checked in the viewer pop-up menu, you'll see them. Pick and old
message
