Did you enable the message list for the window that appears when you
select the option to browse deleted messages?

Yes. TB! works with its local cache and displays this. If you wish the
cache to always be in sync with the server then you'd need to have the
cache cleared each time you exit the folder. Of course, this is
practical only if you have a fast connection.

Browse deleted messages seems to be a spin off of the POP3 message
base system so it doesn't work as it should, I agree.
