Yes. AFAIK, you're right.

No. However, POP users are able to enjoy the 'perform folder
maintenance option'. You can choose to have purged messages moved,
rather than deleted. In this way you could archive messages in a
scheduled fashion.

Unfortunately, purging doesn't work for IMAP mailboxes. Hopefully,
this is just a matter of not working yet.
