Hello, everyone.

I am evaluating The Bat! 3.0 under Windows XP Professional (SP 1),
with Norton SystemWorks Professional 2003, which includes Norton
AntiVirus (NAV) 2003.

Following the instructions in the on-line help, I went to the
'Options|Preferences' menu and, in the 'Preferences' tree, and
clicked on the 'Anti-Virus' leaf, but Norton AntiVirus has no
antiviral plug-ins (.BAV files).

I checked the following FTP site, but saw no plug-in that appears
to pertain to NAV:

    ftp://ftp.gin.cz/pub/mswindows/the_bat/plugins/antivirus/

On a Polish Web site about The Bat!, I found a reference to a RITLabs
FTP site containing .BAV files (ftp://ftp.ritlabs.com/pub/the_bat/bav/),
but the site does not exist anymore.

How can I use Norton AntiVirus 2003 with The Bat! 3.0? Other e-mail
programs that I have been testing automatically find NAV and a
progress bar appears, for example, when I send an e-mail message and
Norton is checking it. (I always check outgoing, as well as incoming,
e-mail messages for viruses.)

I have read the RITLabs Knowledge Base article, "Using Norton Antivirus"
(http://www.ritlabs.com/kb/idx/8/003/article/), which concludes by
stating that the "last version of NAV works transparently and doesn't
require any changes from user's side." The article, unfortunately,
does not refer to versions of NAV by number, just in the relative
terms of "old" and the "last". (The KB article is dated
25 October 2003.)

The "last" version may refer to NAV 2004 -- or to 2003, which I have.
(I did not upgrade to NSW Pro 2004, because of bad reviews by users.
I simply keep my virus definitions current, my subscription renewed,
and I run the program frequently, usually, daily.)

I have also searched Symantec's support KnowledgeBase, but the only
relevant article was for NAV 2001 under Windows 98/Me, with an old
version of The Bat!, so I am not sure that the information in the
article is at all relevant (and The Bat! did not use an anti-virus
plug-in in that version).

I have the options in The Bat! 3.0 selected to check both incoming
and outgoing messages for viruses, but The Bat! apparently does not
try to find antiviral software automatically and it will accept
only a .BAV plug-in file -- but perhaps NAV 2003 is "working
transparently." :-|

Obviously, I do not want to receive or spread computer viruses,
so I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Thank you very much, in advance!

Cordially,

David
